On Sunday 20th June 2021 we conducted a training programme for our staff and volunteers on ‘How to play Chess’. The idea is to capacitate staff and volunteers who will become ‘Master Trainers’ and conduct similar trainings to Vidiyal Children when they return back to the centres. It is suggested that playing Chess improves logical thinking in children. Apart from this Chess contributes to the overall development with the following additional benefits.

Mr.S.Muthulingam, Superintendent and Mr.G.Makesh Kumar, House father serving in our Sakthi – Vidiyal Shelter Home and who were university level chess championsanchored the training programme. The sessions included Introduction to Chess, Phases of the game, Puzzles, Tournament rules and Game play and Feedback. Participants were divided into three categories namely; beginners, intermediaries and seniors. At the end of the day they all gained motivation to master the skills in playing chess through practicing the learnings. They decided to buy a Chess Board immediately to move towards the goal.
