0Vidiyal organized the first ‘Workshop on Street Theatre’ in 1998. As an outcome of this, children formed the ‘CHILDREN’S THEATRE GROUP’ as part of Vidiyal Child Rights Movement and continued to express their concerns through the medium of ‘THEATRE’. Our children are talented and when it comes to expression of their feelings, emotions, distresses and disappointments on the violations of their RIGHTS, they become so powerful in their depiction.
Recently we organized a Workshop on Street Theatre for the children belonging to the Intermediate age group (13& 14 years) studying in 8th and 9th standards.
Dates: 12th to 16th July 2021
Children enjoyed participating in the five day workshop which included several exercises on theatre skills. On the 16that the valedictory function they staged two plays titled ‘Ore Ratham’ (Same blood) and ‘Surukku’ (Knot) which they developed in the workshop. They did share their experience and vouched how important it is to engage children in art forms which gives them a platform to enjoy their ‘Right to Expression’ which is assured in Article 13 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) of which India has become a signatory in 1992.
We sincerely appreciate our facilitators Mr.P.Chandran, Mr.V.Surya Narayanan, Mr.D.Arockiam and Dr.C.Jim Jesudoss for enabling children to bring out their latent talents in theatre skills.
