Volunteer Program
Volunteer Programme
Volunteerism has been at the heart of Sakthi – Vidiyal since its beginning. Early on, we engaged college students through the NSS unit of Madurai Kamarajar University and organized youth sensitization programs. This helped inspire many young individuals to volunteer in Vidiyal’s programs and activities. Vidiyal’s intervention has empowered children to become change agents in their communities.
Through social analysis and personal experiences, children developed goals for societal impact, leading to the creation of the ‘Muhangal’ (Faces) Volunteer Programme. When children reach college, they commit to volunteering in Vidiyal’s outreach programs, reflecting their growth from having no identity to asserting “I am my identity.”
This program has fostered positive dynamics, with volunteers becoming role models for younger children, showing them that they can overcome adversity and achieve success. Volunteers contribute their skills in Child Resource Centres, tutoring and engaging in activities for holistic child development. This replicable model rewards volunteers with opportunities for self-growth and helps them transition from receiving support to giving back, contributing to their community’s development. Over the years, Vidiyal has had 103 volunteers.
