WORKSHOP ON SOCIAL AUDIT

by / No Comments / 77 View / April 28, 2024

Social audit is a form of citizen participation that focuses on government performance and accountability. In that context, a social audit is a way of measuring, understanding, reporting and ultimately improving the social and ethical performance of various bodies including the government. It is qualitatively different from other forms of audit and citizen participation, whose main purpose is to express citizen’s voice and promote a more inclusive government, such as public demonstrations, advocacy and lobbying and/or public hearing initiatives. Sakthi – Vidiyal as an organization committed for the protection and promotion of children’s rights believes in Children’s Right to Participation and acknowledges children as ‘child citizens’ of our nation. In this light a two-day workshop was organized on the 25th and 26th April 2026 on ‘Social Audit’ for the children of Vidiyal Child Rights Movement belonging to urban and rural Madurai. Mr.G.Ganesan, a child rights activist anchored the two day workshop along with the support of Mr.Prabhu and Mr.D.Arockiam. Dr.Jim Jesudoss designed the objectives of the workshop. Children participated with lots of enthusiasm and learnt ‘what is social audit’, ‘importance of social audit’, ‘tools associated with social audit’ and ‘how to conduct a social audit’. The participatory methodology enabled them in engaging in meaningful discussions and presentations. Children prepared an audit tool at the end of the workshop.
