WORKSHOP ON GENDER SENSITIZATION

Every three years we organize a Workshop on Gender Sensitization for our Senior Children studying in 10th, 11th and 12th standards. This year we organized this workshop between 20th and 24th May 2024 at the Vidiyal Campus at Muthupatti. Children were divided into five groups and participated in the workshop with lots of interest. The workshop began with singing, welcome, context setting and expectations. Sessions included ‘Understanding Belief System, Stereotypes, Gender Vs Sex, Historical Appraisal of Gender, Socialisation and Social Constructs, Gender Roles, Gender and Language, Gender and Social Values, Gender and Religion, Gender and Economy, Gender and Politics, Gender and Globalization, Gender and Media, Gender and Law, Advertisements through a Gender Lens, Film Critique, Gender Discrimination in Family, School, Community and in the Larger Society, Poster Making, Songs on Gender Equality, Reconstructing Proverbs and Breaking Through Barriers. Experienced resource persons anchored these sessions and enabled children to learn and unlearn. The resource team included Dr.C.Jim Jesudoss, Mr.D.Arockiam, Dr.G.Sharmila Jim, Ms.Selvagomathi, Ms.R.Kavitha Rajamunis, Ms.Elamathi, Ms.Balasundari, Mr.D.Thangapandian, Mr.M.Anbu and Mr.J.James. At the end of the workshop the children took an oath and developed an action plan for Vidiyal Child Rights Movement.
